In line with the various stages of an academic career, the Science Prize is awarded in four categories: Baccalaureate, Master, Praedoc and Postdoc. The prize is endowed with a total of 8000 euros, with each of the four prizewinners receiving 2000 euros.
The nominees are proposed by the heads of the chairs, professors and habilitated scientists at Montanuniversitaet. The winners of the science prize are then selected by a high-calibre external jury. The prize is awarded by Montanuniversität in recognition and appreciation of the research achievements of women. The winners are intended to serve as role models and motivate young women to choose an academic career.
Mag.rer.nat. Dr.rer.nat. Alice Lassnig, Senior Scientist at the Institute of Chemistry of Polymeric Materials, is the recipient of the 2025 Montanist Women's Science Award in the postdoc category. Her scientific work focuses on the microscopic, chemical and mechanical characterisation of interfaces in various material systems. The award-winning research focuses in particular on the investigation of the delamination behaviour and adhesion of metallic thin films on brittle substrates. Lassnig analysed this behaviour on different length scales and used new investigation methods. A deep understanding of the deformation mechanisms of these layers contributes to improving their reliability. Metallic thin films are used in numerous technological applications.
Furthermore, Alice has taken over the leadership of the research group for printed electronics at the institute.
Congratulations!
