Successful defence: Alexander Legenstein completes PhD

On 31 January 2025, Alexander Legenstein successfully defended his dissertation ‘Enhancing the Automated Tape Placement Process: Novel Approaches in Flashlamp Heating and Tape Steering for Thermoplastic and Natural Fiber Composites’.

In his work, he developed pioneering methods for optimising the Automated Tape Placement (ATP) process - a key process for the production of high-performance composites. His research focused on two key improvements: precise tape guidance to realise curved laydown paths and the use of high-frequency flash light for tape heating. Particularly in the field of thermoplastic composites, these innovations could significantly increase efficiency and precision in high-performance industries such as aerospace.
