Our dynamic #IP2TIS program, tailored for outstanding Bachelor, Master's, and MBA students, runs for 2-3 months during summer 2023. About the project
As part of Roche's commitment to crafting a more sustainable future, we are seeking an intern to join our team in Mannheim and be part of a development project. Your part will be to transform a current transportation process into a more sustainable and eco-friendly process by reducing plastic waste and greenhouse gas emissions.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Conduct an environmental impact analysis of the current transportation tray used to transport components from suppliers in Europe to Roche Mannheim.

  • Develop and evaluate new sustainable concept ideas such as a recycling process, circular flow of trays, or the usage of more environment-friendly materials like recycled or plant-based PET.

  • Create an impact analysis and feasibility study for your proposed solutions with regard to technical, ecological, and economic considerations to estimate potential CO2 and resource savings.

  • Be part of a high-impact development project in Roche's Point-of-Care world, working alongside industry experts and contributing to the future of Roche.

You will have the chance to make a difference by transforming a disposable transportation tray into a more sustainable process.

What are the three key achievements we expect from you

  • Conducting a comprehensive analysis of the current transportation tray to identify the environmental impact, including plastic usage and CO2 emissions.

  • Brainstorming and developing innovative and sustainable concept ideas for the transportation tray that will reduce the environmental footprint.

  • Conducting a detailed evaluation of these new concept ideas, taking into account their feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact to identify the best solution.

You are:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master's program with a background in engineering or business and a specialization in sustainability (e.g. Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar)

  • Preferably experienced in environmental impact analysis, preferably in a professional or academic context

  • Skilled in using Excel and/or Google Sheets for data analysis and modeling

  • Possess strong analytical thinking skills and creative problem-solving abilities

  • Able to communicate optimally and collaborate well with diverse teams and stakeholders

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, while also being a proactive standout colleague

  • Passionate about or knowledgeable in sustainable topics and committed to making a positive impact on the environment
