Unite with 34 interns from over 17 countries in this program, as we collectively redefine the possibilities!
About the project
Join us in reducing Roche's plastic consumption and waste through our innovative B2B packaging recycling project. By shipping back trays, boxes, and other packaging to the manufacturer for recycling, we can reduce our carbon footprint, manufacturing waste, and complexity while saving costs.
The following are the key details about the project:
Reducing Roche's plastic consumption and waste by at least 50 tons per year.
Recycling B2B packaging within Roche to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to our 10-year ambitions of creating a sustainable future.
Decreasing manufacturing waste and simplifying the complexity of different suppliers, which could lead to cost savings.
Gaining hands-on experience in analyzing material flows, creating material flow cycles, and performing analytical techniques like rheometry and mechanical testing.
Providing data-driven evidence of our success, which will be crucial in driving support for the project and implementing it throughout the organization.
Unleashing the full potential of plastics in packaging by reusing them multiple times, which will benefit the environment and contribute to a more sustainable future.
What are the three key achievements we expect from you
Establish the material flow cycle, defining how B2B packaging will be returned from Roche to the recycling partner, then to our suppliers, and back to Roche.
Determine the maximum number of recycling cycles for the plastic used in the corrugated sheets through material analysis techniques like rheometry and mechanical testing. This will ensure that we can reuse the material as many times as possible before it becomes unsuitable for the recycling process.
Calculate the total cost/savings of our recycling process in terms of CO2 emissions and Euro. By understanding the economic and environmental impact of our project, we can make data-driven decisions and demonstrate the value of our efforts.
Who you are
You are currently studying in a technical field, such as packaging design, mechanical engineering, polymer engineering, or similar.
You have a keen interest in sustainability and enjoy working on technical tasks that contribute to a more sustainable future.
You exhibit a hands-on mentality and are comfortable performing analytics and testing on production equipment.
You possess excellent organizational skills and are able to define and structure tasks needed to get the recycling process ready for full-scale production.
You are familiar with improvement based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act principle, and can apply it to achieve optimal results.
You enjoy connecting with people at various levels, from shop-floor to middle management, both within and outside Roche.
You are willing to travel to our partners' sites to gain a deeper understanding of the individual process steps involved in the recycling process.
While not required, knowledge in plastic recycling technologies, material science, and polymer extrusion would be beneficial.
You are fluent in German, both written and spoken.
