Leoben-Conference on Polymer Engineering and Science (LKK)

The Leoben Conference on Polymer Engineering and Science (LKK) is the annual polymer engineering conference in Leoben and a key meeting place for alumni, industry partners, research institutions, as well as university and school students. The event brings together the entire polymer community, showcases the latest developments in polymer engineering and science, and promotes the transfer of knowledge between academia and industry. Further details on the programme and registration can be found at www.unileoben.ac.at/polymerevents.

What makes LKK stand out

For many years, the Leobener Kunststoff-Kolloquium has brought together experts from polymer engineering, materials science, and industry. Participants gain insights into current research, innovation, and best practice — from polymer chemistry and structural design to processing, testing methods, and quality assurance.

Organisers and network

LKK is jointly organised each year by the Department of Polymer Engineering and Science at Montanuniversität Leoben and the Polymer Competence Center Leoben GmbH (PCCL). Each year, a different institute within the department takes the lead, ensuring a lively exchange firmly rooted in research, teaching, and industrial collaboration.

Annually changing focus topics

Thanks to annually rotating themes, the conference covers a broad spectrum in polymer engineering, including:

  • Polymer chemistry and materials development
  • Design, simulation, and structural assessment
  • Processing technologies and process optimisation
  • Testing, quality, and durability
  • Sustainability, circularity, and recycling
  • Applications in sports, mobility & energy, and electronics & digitalisation

Who should attend?

The conference is designed for:

  • Industry partners and decision-makers
  • Researchers, lecturers, and students
  • Alumni and VLK members
  • Pupils interested in polymer sciences Networking, recruitment, and knowledge transfer take centre stage — with keynotes, technical talks, panels, and practical case studies.

POLYMER SCIENCE SCHOOL AWARD

A core element of the colloquium since 2019, the POLYMER SCIENCE SCHOOL AWARD recognises forward-looking ideas and innovative projects by pupils. The award highlights pathways into polymer sciences, plastics engineering, and sustainable material solutions, strengthens STEM talent, and makes young innovators visible in the region.

Why attend?

  • First-hand access to up-to-date research results
  • Exchange with alumni, industry, and academia
  • Inspiration from use cases spanning idea to market-ready product
  • Visibility for young talent, projects, and partnerships
