The "Digital Polymer Science" research area is actively shaping the digital transformation at Montanuniversität Leoben. As knowledge in automation, simulation, and AI grows rapidly, we are massively intensifying this focus area starting in 2026. Our goal: to close the gap between classical materials science and cutting-edge data science.
We are driving digitalization on several levels:
- Advanced Simulation: From molecular dynamics to component strength – we digitally map fracture mechanics, rheology, and damage processes.
- Digital Twins: We create virtual twins for materials and processes to drastically reduce development times.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): We use Big Data and AI-supported methods for design, characterization, and recycling.
"Digital Polymer Science" acts as a bridge between materials science and computer science to decisively accelerate the development of sustainable materials and processes.
