Long Night of Research at the Center for Polymer Technology!

Hands-on research: bustling labs, lots of questions—and plenty of “aha” moments

The Long Night of Research was held with great interest and curiosity at the Center for Plastics Technology as well. Numerous visitors—from families and schoolchildren to those with a professional interest—took the opportunity to experience research up close, ask questions, and try things out for themselves. Our team provided insights into current projects across the entire plastics technology value chain and demonstrated how ideas are transformed into practical solutions.

At 5 interactive stations at the Center for Plastics Technology, visitors could gain exciting insights into current research projects.

  • How much nature is in modern composite materials?
  • Materials Science & Testing of Plastics: What can protective equipment withstand?
  • Plastics chemistry: Is it possible to produce electrical strain sensors using screen printing?
  • Plastics processing: No limits: What is possible with 3D printing in the medical field?
  • Can Lego bricks help explain the negative Poisson’s ratio?

Open discussion, many curious questions, and a palpable enthusiasm for technology characterized the evening. The hands-on stations, where visitors—especially children—could test, measure, and experiment, were particularly appreciated.

A total of 1,114 visitors experienced this year’s Long Night of Research 2026 at the Montanuniversität Leoben.

Special thanks go to our scientists, who presented their work with great dedication and enthusiasm..
