Visit to Fiber Elements: Basalt Fibers for HempFibEx

On April 7, 2026, the HempFibEx project team met at the Fiber Elements facility in Leoben. The goal of the meeting was an in-depth technical exchange regarding basalt fibers, which Fiber Elements processes in its operations. These mineral fibers—alongside plant-based and animal-based fibers—are classified as natural fibers and are to be specifically utilized and tested within the scope of HempFibEx.

The insights into production, quality assurance, and assembly provided valuable input. We would like to extend our special thanks to the Fiber Elements team for the open discussion and practical insights.

We are also pleased to officially welcome Steffen Stelzer as the new head of the Chair of Composite Materials Processing and Design for Recycling to the project.

Note: Fiber Elements is not a partner in the HempFibEx project; the meeting served as a forum for technical exchange.
