MAQUAM3D project launch

The first meeting for the MAQUAM3D project – Material Qualification for Medical 3D Printing – took place at the Institute of Polymer Processing at the beginning of March.

As part of this WEAVE project, which is funded by the FWF and the DFG, researchers are investigating how medically approved materials for use in implants and medical devices behave during processing in 3D printing.

Particular interest is being paid to the degradation mechanisms of the polymers used. These can arise on the one hand from thermal stress during the printing process and on the other hand from prolonged exposure to heat.

Another focus of the project is to investigate how possible degradation products behave in the human body. These issues are being addressed in collaboration with the Medical University of Graz, Graz University of Technology, and the University of Paderborn.
