The topic of his dissertation was "Innovative Design of Covalent Adaptable Polymer Networks: Chemistry of New Catalysts for Bond Exchange Reactions and Strategies towards Controlled and Efficient Self-healing". As part of the thesis, Alabiso carried out a study aimed at introducing new catalysts (namely organic phosphates and phosphonates to catalyze transesterification reactions) for bond exchange in thiol-click photopolymers. As a result of this work, a versatile "toolkit" of readily available compounds was provided for further studies.
