Our research focus

The Department of Polymer Engineering and Science Leoben is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to new challenges. Our research covers a wide range of topics including sustainable and clean energy and transport, health, food safety, viable product cycles, and more.

In addition to basic research, the researchers of the department also work closely with industry to promote innovation and transfer important research results to the economy. Projects are often funded nationally or internationally.
Over the years, the department has repositioned itself thematically with a view to the new challenges and has focused on six main areas of research: Method Development, Additive Manufacturing, Intelligent Production, Lightweight Construction, Recycling of Polymers, and Polymers in Hydrogen Technology. The following pages offer insights into the department's diverse research activities, which address central issues and generate innovative solutions in various individual projects.
