Technology meets talent! REHAU honours young researchers.

This prize was awarded to the Montanuniversität Leoben for the first time.

Dipl.-Ing. Dr.mont. Lukas Hentschel was honoured in the dissertation category (endowed with €3,000) on 23 October 2025 in Rehau for his outstanding work entitled: ‘Material selection and process development for droplet-based additive manufacturing of medical implants’.

The dissertation was written at the Institute fo Polymer Processing under the supervision of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Clemens Holzer.

With his research, Dr. Hentschel is making an important contribution to the further development of additive manufacturing technologies for the medical sector and impressively demonstrates the innovative potential of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben.

The REHAU Technology Award was presented for the 19th time – and once again, the focus was on young talents who are helping to shape the future of plastics technology with their innovative ideas. The award ceremony took place in the inspiring atmosphere of ‘REHAU Art’ and, in addition to short presentations of the award-winning works, also provided an opportunity for guests, university representatives and REHAU employees to exchange ideas.

The REHAU Technology Award promotes innovative ideas and recognises bachelor's and master's theses, dissertations and special achievements in the field of recycling. This year, around 30 projects from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were submitted – a strong signal of the continuing interest in technical issues relating to materials, surface technologies, processing methods, joining technology and functional integration. Topics such as sustainability, recycling, energy efficiency, lightweight construction and 3D printing are at the forefront.

Jobst Wagner, Vice President of the REHAU Group, emphasised the importance of technology and technical innovations in his welcoming speech: ‘Our core competence – polymer processing – remains central even in economically challenging times. The technical departments at REHAU are essential for our progress – especially in times of change and transformation.’

The winners were selected by a high-calibre jury consisting of university representatives Prof. Dr. Holger Ruckdäschel from the University of Bayreuth and Prof. Dr. Florian Puch from the Technical University of Ilmenau, as well as REHAU experts Dr. Thomas Rhönisch, Dr. Martin Sonntag and Dr. Frank Lehr.
