Kick-off meeting: bio-ART project starts in Leoben

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, experts from industry and research gathered in Leoben to kick off a promising project.

The event began with a warm welcome, followed by a concise introduction of the project and the team behind it. The consortium partners, who will be working together to implement this innovative idea, were then introduced. Representatives of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG, of Steirische Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft m.b.H. SFG and the Province of Styria, the project's sponsor, were also present.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the kick-off meetings for the individual sub-projects, at which the details of the planned research work and the desired objectives were discussed. Another focus was on setting milestones and timetables to ensure that the project runs successfully. In the three sub-projects, the focus is (1) on the development of hardeners made from renewable raw materials that are specifically designed for thermosets with a high proportion of bio-based carbon. These are (2) used in conjunction with bio-based epoxy oligomers, which open up new horizons for sustainable materials thanks to their impressive glass transition temperature of over 150°C. Particular attention is paid to (3) the creation of bio-based thermosets with releasable dynamic network properties and biodegradability.

The kick-off meeting marks the beginning of an exciting journey that aims to establish bio-based materials in demanding applications and contribute to sustainable development. With concentrated expertise and commitment, the partners are now working to make this vision a reality.
